Grades and a few realizations…

With nothing to do this afternoon, I checked  my grades online and realized that I have obtained every grade that a UP student could get while in UP (1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, 3, 4, and the dreadful 5). In UP, 1 is Excellent and 3 means Passing, 4 means conditional failure so you have to take the removal exam to pass the subject. 5 simply means you failed the subject–something that every student fears and is certainly a life-changing experience.

And so, to see which subjects I got the highest and lowest scores for, and to just see whether I do deserve most of the grades I got or not, I listed down all the subjects where I got the corresponding grades… just to see if there is any trend at all. 😀 You get I mean?

Anyway… here’s the breakdown of my grades… I’m still waiting for 2 more subjects from this last semester since they’re not posted yet.

1.0 – STS (Science, Technology, & Society)
–> Most of us got line of 1 grades in this subject. The subject is really easy. And attendance counts the most since you get an automatic bonus of 0.25 in the final grade for complete attendance! Plus, the final exam was really easy!

1.25 – Comm I (Communication Skills I), PE 2 Phil G (Philippine Games), PI 100 (The Life and Works of Jose Rizal)
–> I really love Comm 1! My professor was Sir Mikee Inton, now known as Madame Inton. He was the first professor who understood my love for dogs and Harry Potter. He’s utterly the best and I’d highly recommend him. 🙂 Philippines Games, on the other hand, is the PE I liked best. It’s fun and easy and makes me feel that, even though I’m not sporty and all, the subject is still worth taking. Anyway, I took PI 100 under Prof. Mangubat. He’s a fair teacher even if with some weird requests. He’s not a traditional lecturer. And I cannot remember if he even lectured us a bit Jose Rizal. So what did we study? Honestly, I cannot remember much except that it was more like a Hum II subject since we were asked to perform and write and do other artsy stuff. 🙂 I’m not complaining. It was really fun in the end. 🙂

1.5 – History I (Philippine History), PE 1 FPF (Foundations of Physical Fitness), Comm II (Communication Skills II), Chem 18.1 (Fundamentals of General Chemistry II – Laboratory), Nat Sci 5 (Biodiversity and Sustainable Development), Hum I (Literature, Man & Society), Hum II (Art, Man & Society), Psych 10 (Journey into the Self)
–> I took Histo 1 under Prof. Caringal. She’s really nice and I love her exams because they’re mostly essays. 😀 In PE 1, I had fun and what I remember most are the friends I’ve met there. In Comm 2 under Ms. Pam Yu, I had fun doing research and writing, of course. In Nat Sci 5, it was a fairly light subject but the exams were hard. I love Hum 1! 🙂 I simply love the class, Ms. Martin, and everything else that we did in the subject. 🙂 I even love the play that we did–The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams where I played as Laura Wingfield. In Hum 2, we played Grease and I was one of the supporting actresses. LOL Psych 10 was also a great subject. It was in that subject that I made a scrapbook. 🙂 I worked on it during the Christmas break and continued till it was time to pass the scrapbook. 🙂 I had fun doing that… made me accept and appreciate a lot in my life. 🙂

1.75 – Soc Sci 1 (Foundations of Behavioral Sciences), PE 2 BD (Badminton), Comm III Eng Speech Communication – English), Ph Ch 125 (Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry 1), Ph Ch 106.1 (Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Laboratory), Phar 54 (Pharmacy Practice)
–> In Soc Sci I, I had the most unfortunate experience. Really, the professor was someone who’d rather brush her teeth in front of class than teach. Of course that didn’t happen in our class, just in her other classes. Anyway, I was glad she gave me a high grade even though my scores in exams weren’t that good. 🙂 In Badminton, it was really fun to learn how to play the game as played by professionals. I used to play badminton in front of our street… but it was nice to learn the real rules. 😀 And even though I played badly, I was a real sport and tried very hard. 😀 In Comm III under Prof. Bernadas aka Burns, I was scared of him at first. But it turns out that he was such a really nice person and a great teacher so it was really not hard to see why most of the students have a crush on him–including me at that time. In Ph Ch 125, that was actually my 2nd take of the subject. And I was so glad that I passed it with good grades. It was just a relief because the subject was so hard. Imagine, jumping electrons! In Biochemistry Lab under Sir Bang and Mam Mel, it was quite an experience. I think this was the subject (including the lecture) that got our batch really close. 😀 The exams were fun and you could really learn a lot in this subject. I will never forget the experiment where we had to take batches of urine samples from Kuya Jonet, a lab tech in the college. In Pharmacy Practice under Sir Paul, I had a very great time. 🙂 I love the subject! 🙂 It was kinda hard since you’ll never know what to expect from exams… What I love most about this are the Prescription Processing part and the case studies. 🙂

2.0 – Chem 14.1 (Fundamentals of General Chemistry I – Laboratory), Philo I (Philosophical Analysis), Geo 11 (Principles of Geology), Phar 41 (Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms), Phar 110 (Human Physiology and Anatomy), Ph Ch 27 (Chemistry and Pharmacy of Organic Medicinals), Ph Ad 53 (Pharmaceutical Accounting), Phar 115 (Pharmacology for Pharmacy)
–> I honestly cannot remember Chem 14.1 much except that the teacher then told us that the endpoint of titration with phenolphthalein is pink, bright pink. Then we learned in the College of Pharmacy that the end point is not bright pink, but a very, very, very faint pink. LOL In Philo 1, I had Ms. Jimenez, who has a sister named Joyce Jimenez, as a professor. She’s cute and a bit funny because of her habits and quirks but she is totally nice. 🙂 In Geo 11, I had the bio block as classmates. The subject is great and Ms. Quimba was the professor. I was not able to attend the fieldtrip in Baguio because I had an exam in a Pharmacy subject on that same day. In Phar 41, I had the pleasure of being under the tutelage of some of the best teachers in the college. 🙂 It was a great subject because during the laboratory you get to do a lot of compounding of different products in various dosage forms. It was like really feeling what it is like to be a pharmacist. 🙂 In Phar 110, I had a hard time with the laboratory… and I remember I cried because I killed a mouse. 😦 It wasn’t intentional… huhu. I can still remember the feeling I had then. Although I hate rats and other related species very much, I never want to hurt any animal. 😦 On the other hand, I had a great time with the lecture. Sir Luna was absolutely the most hilarious male professor I’ve ever had. 🙂 And I will never forget the time he lectured on the Reproductive system because the lecture lasted for almost 5 hours. LOL In Ph Ch 27, I had a blast especially in the laboratory where I have Jambol at Ate Joyce as groupmates. 🙂 So many fond memories with them… Anyway, though the lecture part was hard since you have to study a lot, I find myself enjoying lectures. Mam Orejola just makes the best presentations… and she’s really good at explaining the lessons. 🙂 In Accounting, although the exams were really challenging, it was kinda easy for me since I’ve been handling accounts since high school. In Pharmacology, I could probably write more than 10 pages about my experience in this subject. But I can describe it in two words, amazing and fun. 🙂 Yes, our teacher, Mam Gy, was so good that she was able to teach us a lot about drugs and still manage to make it fun and easy for us. 😀 We’ll miss you Mam! 🙂

2.25 – Bot 11 (General Botany), Pharm 21 (Pharmaceutical Calculations & Techniques), Ph Ch 35 (Pharmaceutical Analysis I), Ph Ch 36 (Pharmaceutical Analysis II), IP 142 (Physical Pharmacy)
–> In Botany 11, I had Mam Ragragio as the professor. She’s really good coz she knows the subject matter well. I was just not too good with memorizing stuff. So I think, if I studied ahead of time, I could really really get a higher grade. In Pharm 21, I think the subject was really hard especially the calculations part. But the 2nd part of the lecture was fine and a bit easy. In Ph Ch 35, my classmates and I really had a blast. Ours was the first and only batch (so far) to have everyone pass the subject. Yep, no failures in this one. 🙂 We also had a fun time during the lab. Our works were evaluated using stars, just like in preschool and we termed them as Ph Ch 35 stars. 🙂 Of course the more stars you earn, the higher bonus points you get for excellent work. 🙂 Then, we also made a video on proper laboratory techniques which is played every orientation time every start of the semester. In Ph Ch 36, I could just very much say that the subject matter is relatively easier than 35. 🙂 Great teachers too! 🙂 In IP 142, I did not enjoy the subject much. You know the feeling that you just have to get on with it because you don’t like it very much? 😛 Amidst that, I liked the lecture part. 🙂

2.5 – Math 101 (Statistics), History II (Asia and the World), Ph Ch 121 (Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry), Ph Ad 54 (Pharmacy Management)
–> First of all, I do not like math subjects. I think I aced statistics in high school, but not here in UP. It was way too much. 😛 But then, I had a great time with my classmates. 🙂 In History 2, I had Sir Ong as the professor. I remember that I was not able to pass any exam… but I had the highest grades in all the papers we’re supposed to submit. LOL Just goes to show how bad I am in memorizing stuff and how I love writing very much. ^__^ In my second take of Ph Ch 121, I didn’t think that the subject was easier, I just had a better understanding of the subject matter. In Management, again we had to memorize a lot of stuff… thus the grade. But the subject is really fun. We get to propose our own business and submit something like a proposal. 🙂

2.75 – Chem 14 (Fundamentals of General Chemistry I – Lecture), Chem 18 (Fundamentals of General Chemistry II – Lecture), Physics 51 (General Phsyics I), Bio 22 (General Zoology), Ph Ch 126 (Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry 2), Ph Ch 106 (Pharmaceutical Biochemistry), Ph Ch 37 ( Pharmaceutical Analysis III), Pcog 50 (The Study of Drugs and Biological Origin)
–> I just noticed that I got the same grades in Chem 14 and 18, both taken under Sir Li. I cannot say anymore since I’m not really fond of these subjects. 😛 Same goes with Physics 51 and 52. They were just subjects that I had to take but I did not in the least bit enjoy, sad to say. I just remember that in Physics 51, our professor was mentioned in Lola Patola. LOL And our prof made a classmate read the part about him. I was so scared he’d lash out at me knowing that I’m a writer for The Manila Collegian. LOL In Zoology, I had a bit of fun… but again, I had a hard time memorizing every point of insertion, origin, and action… and other stuff. 😛 When you go to the College of Pharmacy, it does not really matter that you know all those. In Ph Ch 126, nothing much to say. 🙂 Just so and so. In Biochemistry, the lecture part was really great. Mam Solidum is really an amazing teacher. 🙂 In Ph Ch 37, we had to make a presentation and I just remember that I was in charge of doing the layout for our poster. 🙂 It was a great experience and that subject gave our batch lots of bonding moments. 🙂 In Pharmacognosy, I don’t think I was able to pass any of the exams (just close to passing) though I tried really really hard. I was just not good in memorizing. 😦 Anyway, that was the last semester the subject was being offered and our professors made sure that we enjoyed it, which we did. 😀 Our class project then was to create a powerpoint presentation of the tabulations we did in laboratory.

3.0 – Math 17 (Algebra & Trigonometry), Math 100 (Introduction to Calculus), Ph Ch 125.1, (Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry 1), Physics 52 (General Physics II), PE 2 TBT (Table Tennis), Chem 150 (Introduction to Physical Chemistry), Ph Ch 126.1 (Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry 2), Phar 109 (General Microbiology)
–> I was just very glad to get a grade of 3.0 in Math 17 and Math 100. As I said earlier, I do not like Math… and I just did my best so I would not repeat the subject. Hehe. Same goes with Physics 52. I think my dislike for physics was brought about my bad experience in high school. *sniff* Anyway, I think that I do not deserve a grade of 3.0 in Table Tennis. Though I’m not exactly a good player, I think I still do not deserve this grade. This is just so embarrassing. 😦 I’m just happy to pass Chem 150 in just one take. 🙂 That was the last subject I had to take in CAS… and I wanted out of that college already… so I did my best and prayed hard to pass it. 🙂 In Microbiology, I really liked the subject. Really, especially the laboratory part. I had high scores in the laboratory exams. It was just unfortunate that I could not do that well in the lecture part. 😦 I had a hard time in the lecture exams so I was really glad when the final exam was relatively easier. 🙂

4.0 – Ph Ch 125.1 (Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry 1) – REMOVED, Chem 150  (Introduction to Physical Chemistry) – REMOVED, Ph Ad 56 (Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence and Ethics) – PENDING REMOVAL
–> I was glad that I was able to pass Ph Ch 125.1. I would not ever want to repeat it again. It was just too much work. 😛 In Chem 150, I was glad to even make it to removals considering the difficulty of the subject. 🙂 And I’m much more happy that I passed. 🙂 Regarding Juris, I was disappointed that I got a grade of 4. But then at least there’s a chance to make things right again. A 4.0 is definitely way better than a 5.0. I just don’t know when we’re going to take the removal exam… but hopefully, when we do, we will all pass. 🙂

5.0 – Ph Ch 125 (Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry I), Ph Ch 21 (Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
–> I was so depressed when I failed these subjects… and during the same semester. 😦 And after I saw the grade, I promised myself that I will never fail again in any of my succeeding subjects. I just cannot bear the disappointment and depression that followed. 😦

So there. When I first thought of writing on this topic, I never realized that I had so many things to say. Each subject has a special memory that I just wanted to share. I guess that I deserve the grades I got in most of my subjects. I got higher grades in subjects under Department of Arts and Communication (like Comm and Hum) and Department of Social Sciences (History, Philo, and Psych) compared to those offered by the Department of Physical Sciences and Math (like Chem, Math, and Physics). I also get higher grades in the laboratory subjects. 🙂 Also, liking the subject matter does not necessarily equate to getting higher grades. Sometimes, I’m just unfortunate… or sometimes, really really lucky. 🙂 In series, I tend to get higher grades in the first parts of the series… though, I swear, the first parts are really harder than the succeeding parts. Also, in the subjects that I got a 3.0 in, I realized that I really did not like the subjects, except for Microbiology.

Anyway, with one more semester to go, I hope that I’d be able to do well… not just get good grades but do really really well. And, not just in acads, but also in Kule. 🙂

I’m just sad that I could not finish my internship before graduation. I have too much on my hands right now till the end of the academic year that I cannot manage to complete my internship yet. Anyway, my plan is to graduate in April 2010. Finish my internship during summer and until October. Then review for the boards. Then take the boards in January 2011. I pray to God that everything goes well as planned… or even better. 🙂

In a few days, I’ll be back to school again… I’ll definitely miss the blogging world. 🙂 Wish me the best of luck so I’d be able to go back here again soon. 😀

Cheers everyone!

xoxo
