Day 7 at Singapore

Happy 29th Monthsary to Rhalph and I! πŸ™‚ Was supposed to celebrate it today at Universal Studios Singapore but I was still woozy from being drenched in water the whole day yesterday. I still have this feeling of being in the wave pool. Too much time spent there. Haha.

Anyway, here are some random pics for the day.

Happy Valentine’s Day to our dogs! πŸ™‚

Saw this cute dog toy at Daiso and couldn’t resist buying it since it’s only S$2. It’s a pink bone and heart that squeaks when you press it. Planning to give this to Tikiwiki and her puppy when I get back. πŸ™‚ It’s myΒ pasalubong for them.

Bought a lot of stuff from Daiso from my previous trips. And I am just so sad because of the 3-4 branches that we visited here in Singapore, the Charcoal Face Mask is out of stock. 😦 I was planning to buy 10 bottles since it would save me around 22 pesos per bottle if I buy them here. Huhu! Oh well. Will try to find them in the Philippines when I get back.

Okay, then this one is a picture of their generic ibuprofen. I always take 400 mg of ibuprofen for my migraine… and last night, I had this severe migraine. It hurt so bad I had to hide under the blanket since I was too sensitive to light and noise. Gladly, there’s a nearby pharmacy where Rhalph was able to buy 1 box of ibuprofen.

Nurofen(R) 200 mg caplets

Nurofen(R) 200mg caplets

It’s S$3.20 for a box of 12. So converted to pesos, it’s like almost 9 pesos per caplet. Medicines are quite expensive here compared to the Philippines. But I am just so happy it worked well and I was able to sleep soundly for 12 hours. Haha! πŸ™‚

We’ll be watching Safe Haven at City Square Mall later. Will update this post too. πŸ™‚ Ta ta for now!

Flying to Singapore

For the past 2 months, all I could think about was my upcoming Singapore trip. And when it was finally time to go there, I was just so excited! On September 14, at around 10am, I was bound to Singapore via Cebu Pacific Air.

I was on a window seat and I got to magically experience, although for the nth time, the feeling of being in between clouds.Β When I was a child, I always imagined them as something like cotton. And that when you’re at the top, you’ll see cherubims.

Of course I now know that is not the case. Still, clouds give you that dreamlike gaze. AlsoΒ from science class, I know that there are many types of clouds: from stratus, cumulus, cirrus, nimbus, and their combinations. As the plane goes higher, my fascination for clouds grew.

There was that certain magical feeling when you cross a layer of cloud and then you find that you are in between 2 layers. The view is totally amazing. Sadly, I was not able to take a photo of it since my camera was in the luggage compartment. (I am the type of traveler who puts all my hand carry luggage in the compartment above so I can have more leg room.)

Anyway, next time, I will surely watch out for that moment and capture it for all of you to see. I am so happy, like I caught a glimpse of heaven. πŸ™‚

Davao Day 1 – GV Hotel

It’s our first day back in Davao. We’re staying at GV Hotel. It’s my 2nd time in a GV Hotel, the 1st one was in Cebu last year. GV Hotel is a chain of hotels in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao. I’m not sure though if they have some in Luzon.

For those planning to stay in Davao, here’s what the budget twin room without heater looks like. Btw, it costs only P575 per day. But during peak seasons and holidays, the rate will be times 2.

My bed

I’m not used to having just one pillow so I ordered an extra one for P50 good for the whole 11 days of stay at GV Hotel.

CR, TV, with Stand

There’s no spare outlet, so I’m advising that you bring extension cords. πŸ™‚ TV has cable. But I’m not really into watching TV. There’s just one clothes hanger but you can request for more from the front desk.

The water gets really cold in the morning so you might prefer the one with heater. πŸ™‚ It’s not really stellar accommodation but it’s definitely for the budget-conscious travelers. πŸ™‚

Bacolod Souvenirs (Part 2) – FOOD

Food, snacks, or delicacies? The Bacolod experience would not be complete without these yummy treats!

Chocolate Barquillos

Chocolate Barquillos

I bought a lot of these food souvenirs from BongBong’s. The two main shops for delicacies are BongBong’s and Merci. πŸ™‚ It was my first time to try chocolate flavored mini barquillos. So yummy! Barquillos are wafer rolls and they can be used as toppings for ice cream.

Piaya - Regular and Ube

Piaya – Regular and Ube

Piaya is a flat unleavened bread filled with muscovado (raw) sugar. First time also to try hot piaya. Once you’ve tried hot piaya, you’ll always make that extra effort to heat yours before eating. It tastes so much better with the filling sort of melting in your mouth. Hmm… I think I might heat another one later. πŸ™‚ The regular piaya is filled with muscovado sugar. The ube flavored piaya also tastes good!

Homemade Sweetened Tamarind

Homemade Sweetened Tamarind

This one was given by Ms. Lyn, one of my trainees in Bacolod. It reminds me so much of my great grandmother who used to make usΒ minatamis na sampalok. Thank you Lyn!

Baked and Fried Peanuts

Baked and Fried Peanuts from BongBong’s. Haven’t tried this one yet. Thanks to the franchisees, Mr. Earl and Mrs. Evelyn for these. πŸ™‚

Biscocho

Biscocho

I’ll try this one for breakfast tomorrow. This is best paired with coffee.

Barquiron

Barquiron

Barquiron is just barquillos filled with a sweetened powder calledΒ polvoron. Polvoron is made by toasting flour, milk, and sugar.

Butterscotch

Butterscotch

And last is Butter Scotch. Sweet and creamy and sooo delicious! Favorite treat from Visayas. Butter Scotch here in Manila is so expensive. I remember 3 years ago when I went to Iloilo, I bought a lot of these delicacies too. Haha. If I’ll visit here again, I’ll definitely buy more of piaya, barquillos, barquiron, and butter scotch. πŸ™‚
