As part of its mission and corporate values, Generika Drugstore aims to improve the health of the people in the community and to educate the public about quality generic medicines. Through this activity they were able to provide free health and pharmacy care services to 1000 patients. The patients availed of free consultations for general health concerns and ophthalmology services and they were also given free medicines together with patient counseling by Generika Drugstore. (Yes, we do make sure that we counsel all patients regarding the proper use of their medicines.)

The medicines given to the patients are for the treatment and management of certain diseases and conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, fever, cough and colds, pain and inflammation, bacterial infections, and many more. The patients were also given free vitamins and minerals.

Even with so many patients, the pharmacy area was still so organized. :)

Even with so many patients, the pharmacy area was still so organized. 🙂

Various volunteers from Generika Drugstore include 12 head office employees, 2 representatives from Generika Parañaque branches, and 17 trainees. Trained pharmacists and pharmacy assistants were assigned in the dispensing of medicines, while nurses gathered the patients’ vital signs. Other employees assisted the patients all throughout the medical check-up process.
The medical mission would not have been possible without the service extended by other organizations. There were two dozen doctors from the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity of the University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine and the Zeta Beta Mu Fraternity of the University of Santo Tomas who volunteered for this event. There were also 17 members from the Progressive and Responsive Organization of Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines Manila College of Pharmacy who participated in this medical mission. Ideal Vision gave away 100 free reading glasses for the patients diagnosed with eye defects, and Selecta gave away free ice cream for the patients and volunteers.

Generika 101: What are the questions I should ask my pharmacist regarding my medicines?

Ask Your Pharmacist

Ask Your Pharmacist

This video aims to inform customers regarding the possible questions that they should ask pharmacists regarding their medications. It also informs the community about the health services being offered at Generika Drugstores nationwide.

Filipino Transcript:

Dahil, ALAGA KA SA GENERIKA!

What are the questions I should ask my pharmacist regarding my medicines?

Hi! I’m Monique Sanchez, a Generika pharmacist and trainer.

Understanding your medication and how it may affect you is crucial to your safety. Here are some questions you should ask your pharmacist. What is the name of the drug and how is it spelled? What are the meanings of abbreviations and where can you find more information about it? Also ask if there are any generic alternatives.

You should know what the medication is supposed to do and how long it will take to achieve that result. Make sure you know how to take the medication and how many times a day you need to take it, and if a certain time of day is preferred over another. Ask if you have any other options: what will happen if you took a wrong type of medication and wrong dosage. Ask if you should avoid alcohol, herbs, food, other medications, or activities that will alter the efficacy of a medication. Always be aware of the common side effects, and if there’s a way to reduce the chances of them developing. Also be sure to know what side effects you should contact the pharmacist or doctor about if they occur.

Other questions you should ask are: Can I take this medication if I am pregnant or breastfeeding? What are the risks associated with the medication? What are the symptoms of an allergic reaction? Are there any symptoms that require emergency medical help? When should the dosage be changed or the medication be stopped?

Those are some questions that you can ask a Generika Pharmacist. Patient counseling is one of the services that is being offered by Generika Drugstore. Aside from this, we also offer free blood pressure monitoring and fasting blood sugar testing for those with diabetes. We also conduct activities such as free medical consultation, free dental services (such as tooth extraction), mobile clinic, and medical missions.

Davao Day 1 – GV Hotel

It’s our first day back in Davao. We’re staying at GV Hotel. It’s my 2nd time in a GV Hotel, the 1st one was in Cebu last year. GV Hotel is a chain of hotels in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao. I’m not sure though if they have some in Luzon.

For those planning to stay in Davao, here’s what the budget twin room without heater looks like. Btw, it costs only P575 per day. But during peak seasons and holidays, the rate will be times 2.

My bed

I’m not used to having just one pillow so I ordered an extra one for P50 good for the whole 11 days of stay at GV Hotel.

Twin Beds

CR, TV, with Stand

CR, TV, with Stand

There’s no spare outlet, so I’m advising that you bring extension cords. 🙂 TV has cable. But I’m not really into watching TV. There’s just one clothes hanger but you can request for more from the front desk.

Pail and Dipper

Pail and dipper especially for Pinoys. 😛

The water gets really cold in the morning so you might prefer the one with heater. 🙂 It’s not really stellar accommodation but it’s definitely for the budget-conscious travelers. 🙂
